# Bench Report Configuration

The Bench Report configuration is accessible via the [application header in the report edition page](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/#actions). From there you can edit:

* [Metadatas](#metadatas),
* [Time range](#time-range),
* [APDEX](#apdex),
* [Charts](#charts),
* [Colors](#colors).

## Metadatas

This section allows you to update the report name, description and tags.

## Time Range

The time range configuration restricts all the items of the current report to a part of the test, for example to leave out the ramp-up and the ramp-down. Charts, tables, statistics, errors and insights are all computed on the selected interval only.

It is available once the test is finished, for [simple reports](#simple-report) and [comparison reports](#comparison-report). It is not available for [trend reports](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/trend-bench-results/).

### Simple report

![Time Range Configuration](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/img/time-range-report-configuration.png "Time Range Configuration")

The chart shows the load, hits, errors and average response time of the test. Move the two knobs of the slider below the chart to select the start and end of the interval: the selected part of the chart is highlighted.

Once applied, the selected interval is displayed in the report header. Click on it to open the time range configuration again:

### Comparison report

In a [comparison report](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/compare-bench-results/), each compared test has its own time range. Two tests rarely share the same timeline, so the interval is selected separately for each of them:

![Comparison Time Range Configuration](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/img/comparison-time-range-configuration.png "Comparison Time Range Configuration")

- Use the buttons above the chart to pick the test to edit. Tests are named after their [comparison labels](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/compare-bench-results/#update-labels), or `Run <number>` when no custom name is set,
- Move the knobs of the slider to select the interval of the selected test,
- A :material-lightning-bolt: icon next to a test name means that a time range is set for this test. A test left untouched keeps all its data.

Once applied, the report header displays **Per run**. Hover it to see the interval of each test, or click on it to open the time range configuration again:

![Comparison Time Range Header](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/img/comparison-time-range-header.png "Comparison Time Range Header")

!!! tip
    To compare the steady state of two tests, select the plateau of each test, after the ramp-up and before the ramp-down. The comparison is then not skewed by the ramp-up phases, even when they have different durations.

### Reset the time range

Click on **Restore Defaults** to select the whole test again. On a comparison report, it clears the time range of every test.

!!! warning
    You must click on the _Apply and close_ button to save the time range and apply it to the current report.

## APDEX

[Apdex](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apdex) (Application Performance Index) defines a standard method for reporting the performance of software applications, by specifying a way to analyze the degree to which measured performance meets user expectations. Score is between 0 and 1, at 1 all users are satisfied.

APDEX *satisfying* and *tolerating* response times can be configured globally for the test report:

![Apdex Report Configuration](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/img/apdex-global-configuration.png "Apdex Report Configuration")

Click on the _Apply_ button to set the selected *satisfying* and *tolerating* values for all APDEX metrics present in the current report. This overrides all specific metric configurations.

!!! info
    APDEX can also be configured for a specific metric. Please refer to the documentation on [metrics configuration](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/metrics-selection/#apdex).

## Charts

![Graphs Configuration](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/img/graphs-configuration.png "Graphs Configuration")

The Graphs configuration lets you select the maximum number of metrics that can be added to specific report items:

* *Max. number of percentiles* refers to the legend of [Percentiles Report Items](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/report-items/percentiles-chart/),
* *Max. number of columns* refers to [Results Table Report Items](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/report-items/results-table/) and [Delta Table Report Items](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/report-items/delta-table/),
* *Max. number of pies* refers to [Donut Chart Report Items](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/report-items/donut-chart/),
* *Max. number of statistics* refers to [Statistics Report Items](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/report-items/statistics/),
* *Max. number of lines* refers to [Line Chart Report Items](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/report-items/line-chart/).

!!! note
    If a report item already has more metrics than what you configure here, the exceeding metrics will not be removed when saving the Graphs configuration. You simply will not be able to add more metrics.

![thresholds-configuration](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/img/thresholds-configuration.png)

The threshold alarms configuration lets you change the color of the alarms in every line chart and the visibility of the threshold horizontal line labels.

The _Acceptable percentage of errors_ and the _Acceptable response size_ allows you to customize the color dots displayed on certain metrics like _% Errors_ and _Response Size_.

You can also completely deactivate these dots with the _Display dynamic color dots on metrics when available?_ toggle button.

!!! warning
    You must click on the _Apply_ button to save the Graphs configuration and apply it to the current report.

## Colors

The colors configuration simply lets you select the color for each metric unit. These colors are used to display lines in charts or columns in tables.

![Colors Configuration](https://api.octoperf.com/doc/analysis/edit-bench-report/img/colors-configuration.png "Colors Configuration")

You may select multiple colors for each unit. And the color used will depend on the metric index in the legend.

!!! warning
    You must click on the _Apply_ button to save the Colors configuration and apply it to the current report.
